Just finished a job in this old bungalow, and the plumbing vent sticks out right over the peak, totally exposed to the street. Kids walking by keep staring, and now the neighbor's complaining it looks like a periscope. Code says it has to be 6 inches above the roofline, but man, visibility's killing the curb appeal. Anyone dealt with venting through the gable end instead to hide it better? Feels like every install turns into a neighborhood debate.

Haha, periscope vent? Sounds like a submarine special. Stick to the code and ignore the busybodies.

I've rerouted a few through the ridge vent to keep it low profile. Saves arguments with HOAs every time.

Good call, but this one's a historic district, no ridge mods allowed. Stuck with the eyesore.

Visibility ain't just aesthetic, exposed vents get clogged faster from leaves and junk. Bury it in the chimney chase if you can.

Chimney chase works gold, but check for backdraft issues first. Had a job where it messed with the furnace exhaust.

True, always test the draw. Dodged that bullet on my last one.

Just paint it to match the shingles. Problem solved, no code violation.

Over the peak is standard for stack vents, but yeah, it screams 'plumber was here.' Next time go vertical through the attic with a shorter stack.

Disagree on painting, code in most spots requires black or galvanized, no camo jobs. Had an inspector fail me for that once. Better to educate the neighbor on why it's there--prevents sewer gas buildup. In tight lots, I've used side-wall vents with AAVs to avoid roof pokeys altogether, but that's not always ideal for long runs. Check your local amendments, some places mandate roof termination for wet vents.
