Up here in north jersey, just dropped $2800 on a new transmission for my work van after it crapped out mid-repipe job last week. I'm running a Ford Transit full of Ridgid tools and PEX fittings, but these damn roads are tearing them apart. Saw a post in Plumbers United group where a guy was ranting about the same thing with his fleet. Feel like I'm pouring money into these vans instead of growing the business. Roger Wakefield had a video on tool organization that helped a bit, but the breakdowns are constant. Anyone got tips on better maintenance or switching to a different brand?

ford transits are a money pit, those damn potholes up there in jersey are destroying fleets left and right while we bust our asses just to stay afloat.

switch to a mercedes sprinter if you can swing it, they're built tougher for rough roads like up in jersey and hold up way better on transmissions. get a full service every 5k miles instead of waiting for the check engine light, saved me from a couple meltdowns last year. for the racking, check out those adjustable probrite systems; they keep your ridgid tools from shifting around and causing extra wear. should cut your breakdowns in half if you stay on top of the basics.

man, my transit's been breakin down so much i started callin it the 'emergency roadside plier rack' - at least it keeps the tools organized while i wait for the tow truck lol

same shit here in the northeast, my transits are always breaking down on these pothole-ridden roads and it's killing my schedule. dropped $2500 last month on one that left me stranded during a rush job, total bullshit. feel your pain with the constant repairs eating into the profits instead of letting the business grow. wakefield's organization tips are gold but they aint fixing the damn vans.

ford transits are a money pit on these pothole-infested roads, i'd ditch 'em for a sprinter in a heartbeat and never look back. your ridgid setup deserves better than constant breakdowns, man.

goddamn vans are bleeding me dry too, dropped over two grand on my ram pro just last month for a busted axle and now im scared to even take it out on these pothole-riddled streets.

screw the ford transits, they're junk for heavy use like ours and you shoulda ditched em years ago for something tougher. i've seen too many plumbers get screwed by those breakdowns, losing jobs to guys with mercedes sprinters that actually hold up. yeah, they cost more upfront, like $5k extra on the sticker, but the maintenance is a fraction and no more $2800 surprises mid-job. ford's build quality is a joke in this trade, especially on pothole hell roads like jersey's. if you're not switching, at least get on a strict oil change every 5k miles with synthetic and check those u-joints weekly, but tbh that's just delaying the inevitable crap. roger's tool org tips are gold, but vans ain't toys, dont treat em like your daily driver. hell, i went sprinter last year and havent looked back, zero breakdowns so far. you sticking with ford or finally gonna upgrade?

ford transits are a money pit, shoulda gone mercedes sprinter from the jump - those hold up way better even on shitty roads like yours in jersey.

switch to a mercedes sprinter if you're sick of ford headaches, they're built tougher for pothole hell and i've only had one breakdown in three years haulin' my ridgid kit.

man, same shit here in jersey with my transit van, that $2800 hit hurts when you're already stretched thin on parts.

switch to a lease program with newer ford transits or even ram promasters, i've been doing it for two years and breakdowns dropped over 50% since the rentals come pre-maintained.

fuck these PE-backed fleet deals pushing shitty vans on us independents. they're making bank while we foot the repair bills. switch to sprinter vans if you can stomach the upfront cost, they hold up way better on rough roads.

Sprinter's solid advice. Get the extended warranty too - saved my ass on a $1500 alternator job last month. For maintenance, change oil every 5k miles and check the suspension quarterly, especially with all that heavy Ridgid gear loaded up.
