Out here in rural Ohio, I was snaking a main line in this old farmhouse crawlspace yesterday, damn near cost me $2800 in medical bills when the camera head snagged and yanked the whole rig toward me. Watched a Roger Wakefield video last week on safe cable management, but forgot to double-check the tension in that low clearance spot. FML, but yeah, always secure your setup before diving in.
those damn old farmhouses in ohio are a crawlspace nightmare, always one snag away from the hospital and ridgid better start building these things with idiot-proof tension locks cuz this crap happens way too often.

dont ever skip that tension check in tight spots, i saw a guy damn near lose a finger when his seesnake cable whipped back on him last month.

bolt a secondary anchor point to the joists every 5 feet along your run, saves your ass from those sudden yanks. i've rigged up a simple carabiner setup with ratchet straps on the compact c40 and it keeps the whole thing from whipping around in tight spots like that farmhouse crawl. check the cable tension with a quick tug test before feeding it in, aim for just enough slack to avoid binding but not so loose it loops up. in low clearance, lay out the reel on a flat board to prevent it from catching on uneven dirt. ridgid's own guide recommends marking your footage every 10 feet so you know exactly where the snag happened without guessing. pair that with a backup light source since those old spaces eat up your camera's leds fast. should've done the same after that wakefield vid myself last month. keeps the $2800 bills at bay next time you're knee-deep in ohio mud.

ridgid seesnake is overrated crap, shoulda gone with that cheaper flexishooter from general pipe cleaners instead of risking your ass in that tight space.

Inspectors and HOAs are the real villains here, forcing us into these sketchy spots without proper access codes.
