Out on a service call in the Dallas area yesterday, got to this old ranch house with a backed-up main line, homeowner swearing it's just a simple clog. I fired up the Ridgid K-400 drum machine, started snaking from the cleanout, and damn near hit a live sewer gas pocket that could've blown the whole setup - pulled back just in time after smelling that rotten egg stink. Saved the day without any explosion, billed 'em $1200 for the emergency clear and inspection. Watched a Roger Wakefield video last week on gas hazards, glad I had that fresh in my head.
homeowners act like its just a damn clog every time but they got no clue about the gas risks waiting to kill us all out here.

homeowners always swear its just a simple clog til theyre begging you to save their ass from a sewer gas bomb, and then they bitch about the $1200 bill like we aint risking our necks out there.

always test for gas with a meter before snaking main lines, i saw a guy get hospitalized last year from ignoring that rotten egg smell on a similar job.

$1200 for a near-miss save? that's chump change considering the lawsuit waiting if you hadnt pulled back in time. i always charge double when gas is in play, screw the homeowners who think its just a simple clog.

always test for gas with a meter before snaking deep, like that ridgid mini-rat detector saved my ass on a similar job last month.

man, snagging a sewer gas bomb mid-sink? sounds like you almost turned that ranch house into a backyard bbq. glad roger's vid had you sniffin' the danger before it went boom, $1200 for the hero save is just icing.

methane buildup is no joke, had my respirator ready after that one. felt that frustration in my gut too, man.

what exactly did you smell that tipped you off? was it stronger than usual sewer gas?

fucking homeowners never mention the old septic tie-ins around here, inspectors should require gas detectors on every job. this pe buyout crap is making safety corners cut even worse.

saved my crew from a nasty gas scare last month by insisting on the ridgid seesnake before snaking that old septic line, turned a $1200 mess into a clean $800 job.
