Saw this thread on r/Roofing where some guy was asking why roofers dont use harnesses on the job, and it got me thinking about all the BS we deal with just to stay licensed. Here in Pennsylvania old houses everywhere means every tear-off is a potential OSHA nightmare, but getting my roofing contractor cert renewed last month was a total crap-show with the state board demanding 16 hours of CE credits on safety protocols I already know inside out. They want proof of harness training even for low-slope commercial gigs under 50 feet, which is fine but the fees are insane for the paperwork alone. Mentioned it in the Roofing Pros Facebook group and half the comments were guys griping about the same thing. TBH, its making me question if I even wanna keep the cert active for smaller shingle jobs. Anyone else dealing with this renewal headache in your area? Feels like theyre just nickel and diming us to death.
