Had this job last week where the homeowner calls up all excited about going green, says she wants sustainable roofing for her ranch-style house. I show up with options like synthetic slate and some recycled metal panels, but when I mention asphalt shingles as a solid mid-tier choice that meets most green certifications, she loses it. Starts ranting about chemicals and how it's gonna poison her garden or some crap. Meanwhile, we're talking about Owens Corning Duration shingles which have a 30-year warranty and are recyclable. I tried explaining the whole lifecycle but she's not hearing it, now she's shopping around for 'pure' materials. SMH, these clients act like roofing is a yoga class. Anyone got tips on handling the eco-warriors without losing the gig? Saw a similar rant in the Roofing Pros Facebook group last month.

Insurance companies LOVE when we chase every green whim, jacks up premiums for no reason. These clients think they're saving the planet but end up with a crap roof that leaks in year 5.

Man, I feel your pain. Dealt with one who demanded bamboo shingles, like what the hell even is that on a sloped roof? We laughed about it in the truck after.

Bamboo? That's a new one. Last time I had a 'natural' request it was reclaimed wood, turned into a nightmare with warping everywhere. Clients don't get how roofs actually work up there in the elements.
