Been quoting a bunch of these asphalt shingle jobs lately, and with all the hail storms we've had out here in Texas so it's a nightmare sorting out insurance claims before even starting the estimate. I use Owens Corning Duration shingles mostly, but customers keep pushing back on the premium upgrade price without realizing the underlayment makes a huge difference in wind resistance. Last week I spent three hours on a site survey just measuring pitches and checking for rot, only for the homeowner to ghost me after I sent the bid. Someone in the Roofing Contractors Facebook group mentioned using Jobber for quicker estimates, but I'm still on pen and paper half the time. AFAIK, most guys add a 15% buffer for unexpected tear-off crap, but is that enough when material costs are jumping? Saw a similar thread on r/Roofing about this, mixed answers. Tommy Mello had a video on handling insurance adjusters that helped a bit. Anyone got a solid template for these quotes?

don't ever start work on a hail claim without the insurance adjuster signing off first, i saw a roofer in dallas get stiffed for 20k last summer because the homeowner bailed after the payout went direct to them.

how do you get the adjuster out to the site without scaring off the homeowner?

Hail claims are the worst, always lowball the payout then fight every line item on your quote.

Tell me about it. I just ate $2k on a claim because the adjuster said my GAF Timberline specs were 'overkill'.

Switch to synthetic underlayment like Titanium PSU30, it's cheaper and inspectors love it in storm zones.

Use Eagleview for aerial measurements, cuts your site time in half and backs up your square footage.

I bake in a hail contingency line on every Texas bid, 10-20% depending on the zip code.

Pen and paper? Get with the times, man. Housecall Pro saved my ass on estimates last season.

Tried it, but the learning curve pissed me off. Worth the switch for the hail add-ons?

Ghosting sucks, but follow up with a text the next day quoting the Owens Corning warranty benefits. Works 70% of the time.
